I recently applied for SSD and I did get a denial letter. I heard that it's pretty common to get a denial letter at first, so i wasn't too surprised and I know what to do to appeal it, etc. But what they told me kind of made me laugh. They did tell me that they could see that I was limited in what I was able to do; but they told me that I wasn't considered disabled because I could get a job that didn't require any skills, training, experience, or for me to even do anything! How ridiculous is that!!!??? Aside from everything else, who the (bleep) is going to hire someone to do nothing????!!!!!
I've heard off the wall stuff from other people who applied for SSD. Any body out there have anything funny or interesting? |

My take on SSD is that if you can do anything at all, do it ... I was encouraged to apply for SSD early on in my recovery process and was all agog because I didn't feel as if I qualified (much less needed) to go there ...
There are plenty of jobs out there that will basically pay somebody to sit around and do "nothing" or at least responsibilities would be so minimal it would about qualify as "nothing" ... For instance, I worked as a third shift convenience store clerk for about 7 years as I underwent intensive therapy and counseling because, frankly, I could no longer do a job that required a lot of attention and detail ... It paid me $8.00 an hour and if I so desired I could make a little overtime too ... I'm now further along in my recovery process and again am working at a job that requires a good bit more responsibility, but I'm also in a better place emotionally to handle that ... I feel that when the government is taking care of your butt, it basically owns your butt ... Therefore, I would only want to go on welfare or disability only if it was absolutely necessary ... Believe me, it's a "last resort" option for me personally ... I've learned I ain't to proud to turn my hand at just about anything as long as it's honest, and I've also learned that I ain't too good to perform tasks that many others would view as menial and/or beneath them ... Of course, I used to think just like that before my first couple of hospitalizations for complete emotional collapses ... Nothing like a good dose of C-PTSD reality to snap somebody out of condescending snottiness ... |

Believe me, it's a last resort for me, too. It's not as if I just don't want to work. But there are very few jobs that will hire you to do nothing. and even the ones that do still will not hire you if you can't do some type of physical or mental activity.

besides, i don't think you understood my question, and you know nothing about me, so i don't feel you are qualified to imply that i am only looking for a hand out.

i am in the process of trying to get disability and really dont understand how anyone would hire someone to do nothing, and any job has to have some kind of mental process to it. i know if i owned a company i wouldnt hire a person to do nothing. my take is appeal, but if you dont have an experienced lawyer on your side get one. my lawyers know moves that ssi ssdi want and inform me before ssi ssdi do most of the time. plus lawyer know how to word things better. sometimes thats all it boils down to is how things are worded. just a thought. but still expect a long fight. in the end if you win they pay u alot of back pay, dating back to your original claim that got denied but dont wait to appeal u have a limited amount of time.
