For a long time, I would not admit to my doctor that I was havinf thoughts of sucide, and for a period of time I wasnt--even tho I first started contemplating it almost 40 years ago. So theres not alot of history of suicide ideation on my medical records before the last year, when i first started becoming honest about it. Can that affect my SSD/SSI case?

I suppose it could but I don't know what your actual medical disability is, what you are diagnosed with; suicide ideation is not an illness in and of itself. What has your doctor been treating you for and does your doctor suggest apply for SSDI (if you have enough work credits with Social Security) /SSI (based on need)? You will require your doctor's good write-up of your disability to get it probably.

I don't know how it works in America but here in the UK I have just been going through the nightmare of the disability benefit system, with all of my mental health issues the fact that I am suicidal (but bare in mind I act on the ideal) they have taken this as a demonstration that the extent my other mental disorders are effecting me severely as a result they have awarded me the higher rate meaning more money. They have only done this for 6 months though in case miraculously I will have a sudden desire to live by then. Crazy!!!
I am not recommending you act on it to show your serious because remember it does work, you have to be able to deal with that consequence so you need to be serious not playing to make a point. The moment you make the effort that could the very last day you will exist. Do not ignore this, or think of it in terms of your benefit.... it is a major warning sign that something more sinister is going on that you need help for!!! wanting to kill yourself means you are being tormented so much that you no longer can see anything but the need to end this is what you need to concentrate on. The reason for these thoughts is what the benefit people need know and so I would suggest you start there with your doctor or T if you have one. I hope this helps you xxx __________________ ********* MINEFIELD Last edited by darkpurplesecrets; Aug 02, 2012 at 01:48 PM.. Reason: added trigger icon.... |
