So I know they say get a lawyer fill out the papers and all but I don't know who where or how to start the application for SSDI (is that what it's called?) does anyone have any advice or tips on how to get the ball rolling, anything I need or anything that will make it easier? Any help please?

My advice is to make sure when you are filling out the papers, include everything, no matter how small. Get down to the little details. Include as much medical history as possible |

Don't get a lawyer unless you've already tried on your own! You can fill out the paperwork online all by yourself.

I would talk to your doctors first, see what they advise; if they are not behind you 100% it will be hard, if not impossible. I would read all I could on the programs and find those I might want to apply for, Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) if I have enough work experience, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if I'm disabled but do not have enough work experience, Medicaid if I am just looking for insurance but may not qualify for SSI.

i had so many hospital visits i just gave them those records i didnt need a current medical doctor to "sign off" or write a letter. i just need to HAVE one and i was currently on meds. i also unfortunately went to the hospital during my ssdi evaluation and immediately turned in those papers. unfortunately i was in one. but i think it helped my case. BUT what im saying is i had so many hospital stays i gave them my records and i mean they mightve contact the hospitals. but not my current doctor.

not only did I get SSD which is from Social security, and based on work quarters, but I also did applications for SSI as a caseworker in Florida for the welfare dep't.. You need a lot of evidence. Hopefully you have been admitted to the hospital a number of times. You have to not be able to work in any gainful employment..I mean any!!! Lets say you were a teacher, but the stress killed you, and you have a mental health dx...if they find you can work in a less stressfull setting they will deny your application.
They usually deny the first time. Its rare to get it the first time, but it does happen. I was in Florida and waited two years. It went to the appeal process and with a lot of luck the judge in Virgina reviewed it, and approved it without it going thru the appeal process. I was lucky. You cannot work at all in any job during the application process. If you do it has to be under the table because even the smallest job can indicate to them you still can be employed somewhere. The trouble is, and why so many people quit the application process is that they cannot survive without money. You have to have family etc that help you and also shelter you . Its rough, but if you are disabled, its worth it!! You can alway message me with any other questions. Note that SSI is for people that do not have enough work quarters. The money is much less and as difficult to get as SSD based on your work history. P.S. You can call Social Security to get the papers __________________ Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.
