Hello everyone,

Does anyone know of a low cost health insurance policy that offers decent coverage for mental health? I live in California and I am 28 yrs old with no pre-existing conditions. Well, I don't know if depression counts as one. And I have been diagnosed back when I had coverage through a previous employer. I am employed now but there's a waiting period to get the insurance they offer. Not to mention that the insurance that they have is crap. I need to see a therapist and there's a lot on my mind that I need to get out. Thanks in advance for your help!

Do you have a Samaritans chapter in your area? I don't have insurance and have gotten counseling from them on a "pay what you can" basis.

You might want to call therapists and see if they have a sliding fee scale. Many do, especially if they don't want the hassle of billing insurance.

Also, check out the Psychology Today 'find a therapist' site; some therapists who offer a sliding scale mention that in their profile. Good luck!
