Part of my ptsd is courtroom related as in the trama of having to face the man who killed my husband in a coutoom. not sure if i can ever step in anothercoutrom. of course im sure to not even know if i will make another 12 months without income or not. its been about more than i can take in and of tslf.

Sorry to hear you're struggling. Hopefully it won't take the whole 12 months to get into court, at least as far as your income is concerned. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I can't imagine how hard this must be for you.

I think you can use the time you have to wait to your advantage. I'm hoping you have a therapist. He/she can help you overcome your fear of courtrooms and help you get through this hearing. It's called desensitization therapy. Please talk to your therapist about it. You can get through this.

Does your lawyer know about your fears? Can something be set up where you don't have to go into a courtroom?

I cannot imagine the trauma of having to face someone in court that killed your husband. It must be awful. I supposedly have PTSD from having been raped as a 14 year old. I cannot imagine the pain of having to face the turkey. I have problems even with people who were involved indirectly. I really hope that things begin to work out for you. A year in the legal system is not any fun

I am sorry for your loss. When I had to go for my hearing it was'nt like a courtroom at all, just a med. size room with tables and chairs. I hope this helps? I wish the best of luck....

Same room situation here. I went two weeks ago and it was held at the social security building in a room with three tables and chairs. The judge didnt wear a robe. Very laid back and private. Best wishes.

I have been a little worried about how I'm going to face the hearing for my ssd/ssi case. I also have PTSD, and GAD, and social phobia so I have been very anxious about this. Plus I filed bankruptcy about a year ago and had a pretty bad experience (long story). But if it's like you described, maybe it won't be quite so bad.

I just had my SSI hearing a month ago. I was really nervous. It was my lawyer, the lady that takes down notes and the SSI guy that says he believes you can work. The judge was on live video screen. The judge has already gotten you medical reports before this meeting and has gone over them, he will have a list of your medicines. He will ask simple questions, such as when did you last work, have they changed your meds and others similar. Then the guy from SSI will say that you can work in such and such industry as it is not very taxing on you. When he said that about me, the judge looked at his papers then back at the screen and told him I do not do well in social situations so no I could not work. Then he approved me. It took less than 15 minutes from start to finish. It will be a lot easier than you imagine.
