I think that you're saying that you got a tax refund from the state and or federal, and you are wondering if you need to claim that income to SSI. Is that correct??
If I assumed correctly, not at this point. If you had already been approved for SSI, then you do need to watch your income closely, as there are limits depending upon what medical program/s you are on and what your income is. __________________ "Only in the darkness can you see the stars." - Martin Luther King Jr. "Forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace." - Author Unkown |

You don't need to tell them anything about current income unless/until they ask about that part and when they do, they will let you know what to include as income; they are probably still working on determining if you are disabled according to their definitions, that is the first hurdle one has to pass. If you don't pass their disabled test, they don't care about your income eligibility.

There's a worksheet in 1040 Tax Form Instructions for SSDI benefits (form 1099?) to see if your SSDI is taxable or not. I have never made enough on SSDI to pay any taxes and I get $1450/mth from SSDI. (There's probably also a 1099 worksheet on IRS webpage to figure it out. I think you divide SSDI total by 2 then subtract your exemption from it and if that # is below a certain amount then you don't need to pay any taxes. Something like that.)
If you owe $0 you still have to file and your payment or amount owed will be $0. I think this is the worksheet - http://www.irs.gov/publications/p915/ar02.html Last edited by cool09; Mar 11, 2013 at 12:10 PM.. Reason: add |
