We are broke as it is, but now I have to figure out how to come up with $1000 for car repairs because I misjudged a turn and the metal pole win against my plastic car (at 7mph). We need the car to get my wife to work and us to therapy... I don't really have anyone to ask for money, so I will likely be paying for storage of the car after its been fixed because I can't afford to pick it up. I don't know what to do. I feel so trapped.

Can your wife ask for an advance on her pay at her job? I did that once when I had a more immediate bill than my pay day. Arrange with the repair shop to make time payments (whatever you'd have to pay to store the car, pay that each month to have the car).

Don't know how much the car is worth; I'd see if you could sell it for what it cost/more than it cost to repair and buy a cheaper used car. Or, I'd sell it (which would save on insurance and gas, taxes, etc.) and budget most of that money for awhile just getting your wife to work and you all to therapy; maybe saving out a $50 chunk or so a month to save for the down payment on another car in a year or so when the $300+ for selling the car and other monthly savings were "used" up so buying/owning made more sense and was possible.

Title Pawns aren't the best way to go, but it's also an option worth considering.

Remember you could end up losing the vehicle though.

It sucks to be in tough situations with limited options.

Thanks for this!

Perna, they have been cutting her hours, and she has not worked there for very long, so I'm not sure how the party advance would work out, but it's worth asking. It's out only car, so we can't really go without. There is no public translation to get work and our therapist offices. We can borrow my mom's car one in a while, but she uses it often.
Pfrog, what's title pawn? I've never heard of it.
Winter, we are trying to find stuff to sell, but a lot of stuff has already been sold to help us through the last 6 months. My biggest hope right now is to try to sell off some of my reptiles, though I have not had much luck even when trying to sell them to help ease the work load. :/
I'm hoping we can scrape together money from family members to help with the cost... :sinking'

Your car insurance won't pay? My deductible is high but not $1000.

our deductible is $1000...
When I hit the pole, I bent the back tire pretty badly. If it were not for that, I could be driving and making due with the door damage for now (even though you can't open the passenger doors)... they won;t be looking at it till wed tho, so it won't be ready for at least a week after the look at it... ugh...

A title pawn is where you pawn the title to your car but get to keep and drive it while you're paying off the loan.

You have a set number of days to pay it back though or you'll end up losing the car.

I had to do it once, but it's not something to go into lightly ... !!!

You must be aware that the vehicle itself is on the line if you don't pay back the loan promptly.

Thanks for this!
