You, Medicaid, have made it so hard to understand what will happen to my coverage if I get married, and made it so hard to live as a mentally disabled person, my girlfriend wants to no longer consider getting married to me because of all the red tape. Congrats, you've ruined another life.

I'm sorry to hear it has been so hard. I don't know much about medicaid but I really hope you can find a way to work it out for you and your girlfriend.

Call your US congressperson's office and ask for help in completing the paperwork. One of the administrative assistants should be very familiar with what's necessary. If they can't, call your state rep's office.

These are public employees, and some one of them has the knowledge you need. If all else fails, appeal to the reference librarian at your public library.

You can do this!

In the middle of all these changes to insurance/medical care, I don't think it is possible to know yet; I would wait 6 months and then see how things have settled by then. Is there any hurry for getting married? Your girlfriend works doesn't she? What is her insurance situation?

Have you contacted anyone from Medicaid to ask about it? or is it all automated or something, I'd think they'd have an option to talk to someone about stuff you don't understand or ask questions about Medicaid.

Or do you know of any places that help people with such things? at the mental health center I go to therapy at they have something called 'Navigations' where people help with applying for things like medicaid, SSI or food stamps and they help with any issues that come up to. Is there anything like that near you? might be worth looking into.

Sweetheart, if she couldn't handle paperwork issues, she surely wouldn't have stuck by you when the really hard stuff in life comes. My heart goes out to you though, as I know you are sad now. (((hug)))

My girlfriend must have been just frustrated. She is all in now.

But I've been to a Navigator with my mental health case manager and they are looking up higher on the ladder to find out. Originally I went to Medicaid myself (in Nov '13) and they couldn't tell me then. 2 weeks ago we talked to the Navigator. I'm willing to wait if it works out for us that way. My girlfriend works full-time and has her own insurance, but it's nothing like Medicaid. I go through about $1500 in meds alone, not counting doctor visits and lab work, that only Medicaid can cover. We've turned down private insurance because it's too costly and doesn't compare to Medicaid.

So, we're waiting and hoping.

Dear OP,

Medicaid is messy and it seems they ( Governors of State are dragging their feet after accepting funds from the Federal gov )
All you can do is what is best for your health right now and that means stay on medicaid for 1014.
If you and your girlfriend are soulmates are to be forever, then continue on as is for now.
Contacting services as others suggested are great ideas.
Remember the 1 st person you speak with has NO authority, if I knew the state of which you are dealing with , maybe I /others could help more.
Call NAMI legal aid, YOU are certainly not alone.
Be firm,
H.
