I'm employed but have a very difficult time working because of anxiety and panic. I don't have a regular therapist right now but do have an appt set up. I have seen other therapist in the past. I don't have a regular Pcp right now but have had in the recent past and took last year for anxiety. What is the criteria or my chances of ssdi? I'm thinking slim. But have not applied before. Financially I need to work but mentally I am losing it. I have a new job so fmla is not an option. Just curious on my options. Thanks.

Usually, in the best of circumstances, it is difficult to get SSDI. If you ate not seeing a psychiatrist, nor a therapist, you really have no one to confirm their thoughts about your ability to work. You can always try, but like many, will probably be turned down at least the first time.

If you are employed right now, then you are most likely not going to get it, as the point of the process of qualifying for SSDI is to prove you cannot work. And reesecups is right; the more medical information you have to back up your case, the better.

I am currently waiting on my hearing and have a lawyer; in my state you always get denied before the hearing unless you are literally on your deathbed.

All of that being said, it is also an incredibly slow process in most cases...some states are faster than others, but none of it happens easily or quickly.

I'm just starting the process and my guess is it'll be 2016 before I see an ending to it, and I'm being serious. Some people get lucky, but I think generally speaking it's common to go 1-2 years (sometimes longer) to get approved. Best thing you can do is visit your therapist regularly and build up medical records. They'll use the fact you're working against you, sadly. I wish you luck though

Thanks everyone. I figured as much. Working is unbearable. Today I left early because I was getting dizzy and sick. Not sure if I caught something or is just stress related. I wish it was easier.

I can feel where you are. I am debating whether to work, or try to survive in order to potentially get ssdi. They are cruel, in my opinion. If we had a serious physical condition, there would be no question. There is still a stigma against us.
Good luck, whatever your decision.

All you can do is apply. I applied last month because of various mental health issues and like somebody stated, there's a stigma and SSA employees and judges I don't believe are too well versed in it. Here's to a couple year battle, yay! Good luck.
