Social Security denies almost everyone the first time they apply, in hopes that they will die or give up. that's why there are so many lawyer sharks in the waters. the amount of fraud in Disability is very small, ditto with food stamps and other benefits. 5% of the people commit 99% of the fraud. and that's barely 2% of the total budget.

it seems that americans just love to be scared; if they can't get it in real life, they'll go to the movies~

yes, Social Security hopes you will find some job you can do~! they will even help you, thru the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (look in the phone book). but if you are not managing your condition yet, in 3 yrs, you will just need at least 2 doctors to say so.... life goes on. you can even try to work, for 8 months and keep your SocSec.D.I. (SSI is different).

good luck learning all about such a complex system,,, but try not to freak out, just be sure to return all requested papers in the time allowed (usually 30 days), or call to see if you can get an extension (but don't count on it). i'm glad you were approved, and have this time to focus on your own healing~!

best wishes~
Gus

I believe I read about that person (part of being denied was they were able to go to church and that showed social functioning) however, that was all verbally spoken in their ALJ hearing, not based on the SSA physically watching them go to church, so it's not the same as what some of us are talking about.

The reason I asked that person for citation, is because they produced some very bold claims, and if you can't back it up with solid evidence, you shouldn't be making public claims of that nature.

I have a new pdoc and I am concerned that he may not stand behind my inability to work. Since I've been on ssdi I went manic in a volunteering position. Also, I have a grad loan of $40k. If I get a minimum wage job all if the income goes to pay off my loan. Because of my bipolar etc I can't handle the corporate employment I was laid off from twice in 3 mo as my illness worsened. It's kind of like having to make x amount of salary to justify putting your kids in day care rather than being a stay at home Mom. I'm going to go over this with my therapist but not my pdoc. I don't want ppl to think I'm scamming to work the system, but as of today there's no way in hell I could hold a 9 to 5. I have often wondered how on earth I was able to even show up and fake stability. I was laid off for being a manic and my behavior was utterly bizarre. It just makes me cringe. I was even rude to the CEO's of fortune 500 companies!!!
