The government dropped the ball on my welfare case in January. I had a hearing, and it looks like the judge may rule in my favor, but she has til 4/22. Waiting for disability, which also takes months. Meanwhile I have to borrow money from my boyfriend and exhusband for everything. It's so humiliating. My son doesn't understand that I can't take him places like the zoo when he is out of school. Sometimes I can't even feed him. I'm at the end of my rope and so ashamed.

You have no reason to be ashamed. The government has really done a number on those of us who have low incomes. Jobs are hard to come by if you can or are able to do one. I'm having the same problem. I can't work more than a couple hours a week, making my income non-existence. Meanwhile, my insurance premiums are eight hundred a month. I have to borrow from my retired parents. Sort of an advance on my share of the will. every time I have to ask, it make me want to vomit.

Call the county and keep going until you get to someone who has some clout. It takes time and is incredibly frustrating, but you have a child as well as yourself, and you need to use all the weapons you have. If you have to, go to the newspaper. Make a stink. Make welfare and disability sweat it out and look like the tight wads that they are.

I agree with Sam. Make a stink. If you don't want to share your name, find an advocate, I found one in something called Catholic Charities. They made the stink on my behalf (because I was deep in crisis). The newspaper will allow you to write an anonymous letter if you have a good reason, like fear of retribution. You can also reach out to the TV news casts. It's close to sweeps week and they always appreciate a good human interest story. Again they will shield your identity. Good luck! I'm in your shoes, just don't have a child. But I will be moving in with my ex-inlaws which is very embarrassing even though we love each other dearly.

Sounds like you are doing everything you can in this situation, so nothing to be ashamed of. This society seems to have a problem of attaching peoples worth to their 'wealth' which is crap. Lots of people are struggling and there are a lot of flaws in the system contributing to that.

Wishing you the best. What I really hate is the way that everybody who's in a position to help is so darned nasty. Like I deliberately caused all of my issues so that I can make their life miserable.

Our government is a ___ joke!!!

Yeah...they get in office and forget all of us who got them there...US=who are in need of things!!!! They are too busy buying yachts, getting themselves raises, shutting down and pouting like a child, and working in the interest of their lobby/"favorites" groups to think about us!!!

Have you tried a catholic charities place near you to see if you can get your psych meds through them somehow?

That is probably a good idea...but why did they say it was cancelled, any way you can appeal or something?

They said they'd look into it. Well, I called this morning, and they said they'd rerun my case and put me back on medicaid. Thank GOD, because some of that stuff (like Abilify) is NOT cheap.

yeah, this is frustrating because this Obamacrap is allegedly supposed to help those of us in need, and yet all these people are having their medicaid cut, people are having their disability suddenly stopped with no explanation whatsoever, etc.

You don't have to be ashamed; you did nothing wrong. I don't know where you live but maybe you can also go to other places for food or money to pay utilities and rent. I don't know where you live, but where I am-we have churches with emergency food and organizations to help with crisis situations like yours. Now hold your head high and may angels surround you.

My boyfriend is letting us live with him rent-free until I get back on my feet. Bless him for that! I managed to get food stamps, so we're good on food for the time being.

The rest of it is a goat $&-! I found out this morning that my entire federal tax refund is going to pay down my delinquent student loans. Loans I couldn't pay because I can't work, and who knows what's going on with my disability case....

I can't get through on the phone to the welfare people to even get an update on that. Going down to the office (40 minutes away) isn't possible. The hours-long wait just to ask a simple question is too much for my agoraphobia and PTSD.

I'm grateful for the roof and the food stamps, but there are so many things I need that I can't pay for, like a second pair of pants and a second bra. Gas for my car. Feminine hygiene products even!

It's so frustrating, and not being able to contact anyone official is pushing me over the edge.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Is there anything I can help you with? (Not that I have money myself, but I'm working on it). May I send you a care package for *your* needs? I'm sure you are spending everything on your kids, PM me if you are open to me helping you.
