I recently applied for SSDI and SSI. I just received my denial letter for SSDI saying that there was not enough medical evidence prior to my date last insured. A few days after my denial letter, I received a letter from SSI that said Important Information on the top left hand corner. It said that I am scheduled for a phone interview in a week. I know that SSDI and SSI are different but if I was denied SSDI doesn't that mean I was denied SSI too and why do they want to bother to have me do a phone interview? I am very confused and new at all of this.

Being denied SSDI at this time does not mean you are automatically denied SSI.
Though you may not have enough evidence at the time you submitted your claim for SSDI to get it, (which you could submit an appeal to provide more evidence, you still possibly could qualify for SSDI), there is enough evidence to think you may qualify at this time for SSI and are doing the phone interview to verify some things to put your application through for SSI in the interim, whether or not you file for an SSDI appeal. You still may not qualify for SSI, but that is what the phone interview will help determine. There is a really good chance for it though.  If you do decide to file an appeal for SSDI, would highly recommend getting an attorney to help with this. With the phone interview they mostly ask you basic questions just to get general info, and they also ask about symptoms/disorders and how they interfere with your functioning and ability to work...so all you really have to do is be straightforward about that stuff.
Beyond that after that they should send paper-work with more in depth questions you have to fill out and send back, then depending on if they feel they have enough evidence or not they might schedule you an appointment with a doctor to get their opinion. __________________ Winter is coming. |
