I'm just curious what does governments around the world do for their countries mentally ill?

I feel that the U.S. Government is not giving those who are the most in need what they deserve as far a mental health care.

I'm also in the U.S. and the state government mandated agency that provides outpatient mental health services to low income people no longer offers counseling. And Medicare won't pay for my LPC unless there is an M.D. onsite, even though he's got a master's in psychology.

I'm in Australia and we have whats called medicare which allows us to have 10 individual and 10 group sessions with a therapist where after we pay the full amount we get some of the money back under a mental health plan which is something I guess but for those that need weekly sessions it doesnt get us very far. We also have whats called centre link where you can apply for disability support pension which means you don't pay full price on most medications and also for other things like car registration and transport like on trains, buses and trams.

So I guess in a way I am very lucky but I do feel for all of you in the US and else where, where it is not so easy to have assistance like myself.

I forgot to mention that with centre link, that depending what assistance you get whether it's DSP or another kind of assistance, they give you fortnightly payments as well, which takes the pressure off you from having to work full time or in some cases not at all depending on your disability or mental health condition. In some cases though and depending on your circumstances you may have to be involved with an employment agency to help you get work or to get you into study so you are able to work..
