I'm in the NYC area, but my health insurance is out of state. I started seeing a doctor about a year ago for an antidepressant prescription. My primary out of state had recommended a particular med but could not prescribe in NY.
My problem is the expense of frequent visits at $300 a pop. I've arrived at a course of medication which is fine, and really have no need to meet with this woman every other month. The visits are perfunctory and do not help. But she has refused to see me at less frequent intervals. She agrees I may not need the frequent check-ins, but suggested seeing my primary .. who, as I've said, is out of state. This being the reason I saw her in the first place. I need to find someone at a lesser cost, or someone who is willing to meet with me less frequently (perhaps twice a year) to continue to prescribe this one med (Mirtazapine.) |

well i think it is a matter of calling around. most psychiatrist require seeing you every three months at least. you may be able to get away with finding a primary care physician who will prescribe for you if you are stable. have them coordinate care with your out of state care provider.

Remeron (your word Mirtazapine) is prescribed here in New York. most anti depressants like this do need periodical periodic medication checks due to other health conditions that the client may have, or because of possible severe side effects like kidney and liver damage. or because the medication the client may presently be on can interact or is a controlled substance. Remeron is not technically a controlled substance but like with any antidepressants standard medication check up with out having a local PCP (primary care physician) is monthly or every other month.
my suggestion is if you have moved and are now living here in New York is to have your our of state doctor recommend a primary care physician that you can now see. Primary care physicians here in New York are fully qualified to prescribe all medications that ones insurance company covers and all others too should you decide to pay for the remeron out of your own pocket if your insurance plan no longer covers it. |

Sounds very complicated. Call your local health department and see if they can help to facilitate this medicine. Find your lical mental health services for your area and see if they can suggest a community service that will see you on a sliding scale if you have to pay out of pocket. good luck
