Hey...
Had a question, probably no one can help but just in case... I did EMDR in therapy although it wasnt long enough to really be useful. However, they said that they saw me benefit more than they had seen anyone else, and all previous therapies had basically failed me (I had been in and out of therapy a lot). They tried to help me get EMDR covered after rehab but it didnt work and I gave up. This was some years ago. Some things have happened lately and I know that EMDR is definitely what I need. I am on provincial disability. They claim that they will provide funds for some therapies as long as you prove that it is not available through the normal mental health system... but I cant seem to even remember where that actually went... Anyone have any tips at all for how to get EMDR covered? I really really need it. I am 18 months clean and I dont want to have to go back to rehab just for EMDR! The regular system is really not enough here... |

I'll say good luck, but I doubt you'll be able to get coverage. Most EMDR therapists are psychologists who are not covered by public healthcare, so everyone has to pay out of pocket for it. The only workaround I can think of is to see if there are any hospitals doing clinical trials and try and get in on a trial.

disability is different from public healthcare. the last i spoke with disability about this matter they said they would consider it if i could prove that it was different from what is already available though public healthcare... and since some of the systems counsellors do have trauma training, it was hard to prove....
we are allowed a certain amount of $ for added therapies it just seems that this added $ is harder to get than they make it seem (as anything in the government). i do remember that my social worker and rehab counsellor at the time were really committed to trying to find a way.... there was also another place but i needed police evidence for that one. dunno. stupid system. it would be way cheaper in the long term for them! |
