I want to get treatment for my schizoaffective and I really wanted to attend a group therapy and take a leave of absence from work since I'm going through an extremely hard time and thought this would help. Then I found out it would be $40/day with my insurance! I'm already paying $200 per month for my medication and about $100 per month for doctors appointments and one therapy appointment and thank goodness I've already met my deductible because I went to the ER but I still have that $900 bill to pay! I'm so stressed and that doesn't help my problems and anxiety. I just want to get better and get my symptoms under control.... My doctor is going to approve my leave of absence to see if I can get my symptoms under control because it's basically impossible for me to go to work but I'll be getting paid about 2/3 of my pay (which is only $11/hr) minus the commission I usually make. Tough times....

What about any vacation time from work and an amicable agreement with your employer (if you needed to borrow vacation time from the future)?

How long would you be in hospital for?

Maybe it is not all or nothing..maybe it is take a week for hospital and then take 1/2 weeks for treatment (aftercare)?

Have you tried patient assistance programs for meds? You can find them on the webpage for the med and they will often give an exception if you have insurance or make "too much" but can show them need (I just write a brief note saying I need this med, I make this much and am spending this much on healthcare and can't afford $200 for this med).

Another thing to try is rxoutreach.com for generics. Way cheaper than most pharmacies. www.goodrx.com lets you compare pharmacy prices and shows any applicable coupons.

Those might help with your bills a little bit.

You can often bargain with medical providers (especially hospitals) after you receive services. Offer to make small installment payments...They'd rather get something than nothing. I've done this before in the past. No need to feel guilty about it, as medical bills are so high these days that many folks choose this option.
