Anyone know how much you are allowed to earn a month while on Ssdi?

You can work part time and if your income is low it will not effect your benefits (they also want you to tell them whenever you obtain any work assignments)--read the social security administration's pamphlet below on working while disabled here in order to ensure you get the correct information:
https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10095.pdf I feel like it is good for our mental health if we explore part time jobs in order to find something we enjoy doing or can become competent at doing. I am on disability but work part time whenever I can. The earnings are low enough that they have never effected my disability payments and the money is always needed. I know there are some people who may need to be on disability for the rest of their lives but for some people it might be good to think of unemployment and/or disability payments as an opportunity to explore other jobs/hobbies/volunteer gigs/self education/etc. in hopes of improving your lot in life. I hope to eventually find a job that I can handle (one that doesn't trigger my MI the way some of the call center jobs I was doing were) and that supports me. |

I haven't worked in four years but instead really worked on myself and I have volunteered a lot. Now I want to see about going back to work. I just need to start slow so I don't get overwhelmed.

That's definitely the right way to look at it. It is smart to try working part time before taking on a full time job. When I do work, I do not have the stamina that I once had (I received disability for both a physical and mental condition but the physical problem has mostly healed) but I am slowly increasing it. You can only do this by working but you can set yourself up to fail if you take on to much to soon. Good luck. For me, it feels good to get out there and try....
