I cannot pay any more than about $800 a month and have numerous disabilities. The place I am currently in is uninhabitable. In Boston, it seems impossible to find decent shelter if disabled an incapable of making money.
Any advice? Anyone having similar problems? |

Ohio is cheap to live. Rent in the Greater Cleveland area ranges from 400$ and up. Biggest Medicaid expansion of any states. However depending on the disability there may not be any help in the community health systems. Most of their funding goes to substance abuse recovery.
You can look and see about Sec 8 in Boston. The waiting lists are long. I'd suggest get on it right away. If you get Sec 8 they take only 30% of your income for your apt. Call 211 and explain your situation maybe they have some suggestions. Good luck |

I used to live in an area where rents were high. I ended up moving quite a distance to an area where renting is way less expensive. That worked out pretty well for me. Boston is a very expensive place to live. I am not surprised to hear that budget constraints could limit a person to some very unappealing options in where you can rent.
Moving is hard. And leaving where you know your way around is hard. Do you have a lot of reasons keeping you where you are at? (Family, other connections?) |

If income is limited, you might want to consider moving into government housing. Rent for a government home is restricted to only 30% of your income.

If you are living on a low income, apply at your housing authority for a Section 8 voucher. It's a federal benefit, and it's portable. You can take it anywhere in the country. What's considered a low income in Boston might be more than what's considered a low income in rural Missouri. It can take being on a waiting list for a few years to get it. If you have any kind of disability, physical or mental, you move up in line a bit.

Where I am at, they call it Metro, so I assume it is a government service. I know of at least 3 apartment complex's that are just for this, in the dinkwater town I live outside of.

That term Metro got me curious. Check out this link:
Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership ? MBHPMetropolitan Boston Housing Partnership ? MBHP This link is specifically for Boston. |
