My husband went ahead and got a lawyer, thinking it was for a hearing, but it turns out it's actually for a reconsideration. The lawyer didn't know this at first either, and the contract he signed is for representation at a hearing.
The paralegal is the one who handled the appeal, and she has done a little paperwork so far, but not much. We are not happy with how she is handling things. She's done a few things now that have hurt rather than helped. she has about 160 cases right now, and maybe this is the reason for her carelessness and bad attitude. I feel like maybe we could handle this on our own better, or maybe we could find someone different, but I have no idea how to go about doing this and I don't want to piss off this paralegal. I thought about trying to make an appointment with the lawyer, since we have never actually been to their office and met him, but then I think I might just be going in there and complaining about the paralegal. Anybody have any idea on the best way to go about this? I have another question but will put it in a separate thread. Thanks. |

Call around to some great, big law firms that specialize in this, ones that operate across state lines. I used a law firm that was in a different state than where I live. I never talked to a lawyer. My case went through so smoothly, no lawyer ever had to even work on my application for SSDI.
If you start googling "disability," ads will pop out at you. Start calling them. You'll hear from paralegals beating the bushes for new clients. Pick their brains. It won't cost you anything to run your situation by them. |
