Has anyone on disability not had to have food stamp interview during yearly redetermination?a few times nobody from the food stamp office called me or sent me a notice about a interview.then would get a letter in mail telling me how much I would get.the last 2 years I had phone interviews but both times they said they only called me because I didn't report how much my social security disability would go up.i have posted this multiple places online & people keep changing the subject & asking about the change in disability amount.this is not what this post is about.it's about food stamp interviews & nothing else

many people get a foodstamp recertification letter in december that they have a recert date sometime in January and what paperwork to bring. sometimes the recert letter will say something like .... there is no reason to call us that your SSI/SSDI is increasing we already know that. other times they call the person and say something like we know your SSI is going to increase in january so please comein on this date for your interview recertification. question did you have a recert since January 2018, if not that may be why they are calling you. because for 12 months you didnt report your income change and they hadnt required a recert after the increase happened. sometimes people do forget to report the increase every january. my suggestion just go do the interview and be honest about why you didnt report any extra income that they didnt know about until now. to find out about how things work for your own food stamps you will need to contact your caseworker who can explain how and why they are requiring you to do this if their reason you now have doesnt fit or you dont understand the process. |

I've been getting food stamps for a number of years. I've never ever had to be interviewed, neither on the phone nor in person. I fill out that form and report my income. They don't even ask for a copy of my social security benefit letter. They have access to that information. (The state computers talk to the federal government computers.) So I'm surprised that you're getting all this hassle.
I believe states differ in how they handle things. I'm wondering if you are living in one of those states that begrudge providing any benefits to anyone - like maybe in the South. |
