When I went through the mandatory credit counselling following my bankruptcy in 2012, they told me that as soon as I had any kind of income coming in, to apply for a secured card, use it regularly, and pay off the balance in full each month. I did that, got a card with a 500 limit, and used it strictly for my monthly grocery order, and paid it on time.

Well the finance company that issued the card, decided to get out of the business of secured cards, so they announced they were closing my account, and sent me the balance of my security payment.

I was looking around for another secured card, but wasn't working really hard on it. Today I decided to look into my credit score and credit card recommendations from Borrowell which is this lending company that helps people rebuild credit.

One of the cards they recommended to me, was an unsecured AMEX. I didn't think I had a chance at being approved, but I filled out the application, and submitted it on-line. I was approved for a card, with a 1000 limit, which I won't use. I'll go back to using it strictly for my monthly grocery order.

This feels like a significant milestone in my credit rebuilding process.

Thanks. I'll check out credit sesame. Don't know if they operate in Canada or not.
