I have no job and have no credit card.
There's a saying of not to use credit card (future money)
But it's very inconvenient, there are payments that only takes credit card.

It's such a hassle.

Credit cards are great if you can pay them off; you can borrow someone else's money interest free for 30 days. Most bank ATM cards can work like credit cards now.

McAfee need credit card
Mobile fee too, so much hassle
You have to call them (takes forever to wait to talk to a real person) and they need to speak the the person who use the credit card to pay for.

PayPal too, or else it takes forever for the payment.
There are somethings you can't buy in a physical store, not in my city.

I rarely use debit card, I use money, coz this way I can see how much I am using and how much left in my wallet.
I would like to have a credit card to be convenient for living expenses, not shopping or leisure, etc.

i do not use a credit card, i have a debit card though, i use it in the same way one would use a credit card the only difference is the money comes straight out of my bank account so if there is no money in the account the card is declined. it is a far safer way to prevent getting into debt as you don't get a big bill at the end of the month.

i don't know about mc afee but paypal definitely accept debit cards.
Thanks for this!

It's a hassle not having a credit card.

takes 2 seconds to get one, and it's free to use.

That depends on the particular credit card. I pay $24 per year for my credit card. The interest is really high on my card because I defaulted on loans but I usually pay off the entire balance each month so it works well for my needs.

I don't have credit cards anymore, since I filed for bankruptcy last year. I've found a great solution in a "Virtual Visa" debit card, that I got from my bank. It's kind of a pseudo credit card designed to be used on-line or over the phone, but it takes the money straight from your bank account. It won't work in stores, but it's great for on-line shopping, I also use it as my "credit card" with paypal. I try to use Paypal for as much as possible, but for sites that don't take paypal, I use my virtual visa. I'd say it works most places. About 1% of the site's I've tried to use it on, recognize that it's not a real credit card somehow, and won't take it, but McKafe took it no problem.

I agree not having a credit card is a pain, but it is possible to manage without one.

I have a PayPal credit card that makes using PayPal easier (instead of their having my bank account information) but I only use it places my much better credit card is a pain (online gambling account :-) or if my better credit card gets a hold placed on it for some reason, so I can still get whatever and sort my better credit card out when I get home.

If you pay off your balance every month you shouldn't have to pay extra. At least the credit cards I have work like this with no yearly fee. I prefer debit though.

have found if not Paypal, then debit cards often work, tho you sometimes have to, but not always put down larger deposit, or have more funds withheld till charge processes. Definitely workable, though. The best!

My 2 cents - only have a credit if you have are very responsible. They thrive off of clients who 'forget' to pay on time or spend more than they can afford. If the previous sentence doesn't describe you, I say it's ok. Otherwise, I recommend for you to use debit or cash.

Nope. I had one once but barely used it. Trying not to break the bank and keeping an eye on the bills is enough

Credit cards are the Banks way of telling you that you can't afford something...If you have a Bank account, then your debit card should be adequate to pay most bills. I do have a credit card...But it is for emergencies only, and is very rarely used.

I don't use a debit card because you can't get your money back if somehow it's hacked. Credit cards can be very dangerous, too, as some here have indicated. I use a credit card but make sure I don't have to pay interest--isn't it something like 18% on some cards? `

My bank gave me a credit card about 5 years ago. It's for emergencies like car repair or to be used for getting hotel rooms when traveling. I paid it off as quick as possible mostly I paid it off in one go before interest was due and built up my credit. Just cashed some points in for a free 150 dollar target gift card for Christmas shopping. I don't carry it with me so there's very little impulse shopping I'm not one for on line shopping ( too afraid of getting hacked)so it's good. Mostly I use my debt card for everything I can go on line and see how much I have, plus my bank sends me notifications if I spend over a certain amount. Since getting a debt card I haven't had a problem with overdrawing the account.

I have four. They are all maxed, plus two lines of credit. I am deeply in debt. I am trying to dig my way out but it's a slow, painful process. I want to say I've learned my lesson, but I'm honestly not sure I have. As it stands right now, I can't use any of them anyway because they are maxed out.

I prefer to use a credit card rather than a debit card because with a credit card, you can challenge unauthorized uses and not have to pay them. With a debit card, someone can drain your account very easily. I also know that card skimmers are still a problem, especially at places like pay at the pump gas stations. I'm hoping that as the chip technology becomes more ubiquitous, debit cards will get safer. In the mean time, my husband and I just make sure to pay off our credit card every month, so it's practically a debit card.

I have a Sams card, used ONLY at Sams. I have two VISA's, one through my bank and one with Chase. The one through the bank is my internet purchase card. the other is for incidental that I cannot pay cash for right at the moment. I am very good with money, it is something I pride myself on, but it is easy to get a little over your head even for the most responsible of us. How I keep it in check is I have a "little black book" and I write down the amounts I have spent when I charge something. It helps to see it in front of your face. When you can actually see where you are at it is easier to "check yourself before you wreck yourself". LOL!!

I have 3 credit cards and I clearly can't use them right. One is maxed and another one is getting there.

Guess I'll never have a good credit score since I cant use a measly $300 credit limit right lol.

I have a credit card and a debit card. I only really use my debit card; the credit card is a strictly emergency kind of thing; granted I have used it in the past when I had nothing on my debit card and really needed something, but I payed it right off.

most people over 18 do have a credit card and or debit card. it is very rare to use actual cash now due to all the stores and such are computerized, digital scanning. not saying people dont still use cash because some do, just that many stores, community agencies like city bus lines, air ports, train stations,DMV, social security and others now require payment by credit or debit cards. many USA states now also require everyone over 16 to have either a drivers license or state ID issued from the department of motor vehicles.

there are also many states that have changed their social services (ie food stamps, money and medical insurance plans) over to a benefit card that gets scanned rather than paper.

the enjoyment of living in the computerized digital age, paper is on the decline and "cards" with a security chip are in.

I do have to say carrying a debit card and credit card and photo ID is so much easier to deal with then standing in line counting out paper and coins.
