So I have Scoliosis. A pretty severe case. But, to my shock, my entire life pretty much.. I have never had serious back pain.

I assumed that would always be the case. However, for over a month now, I have had pain.

It has been happening more often lately.

I went to see my doctor and she suggested to me that if it continues I may have to go get it checked out and taken care of. Which basically might be chronic treatment.

That got me thinking about a disability claim. My job is a young person's job. I was even thinking recently after a long period of stress that I am getting too old for this. I keep thinking it might be in my best interest to consider and make a disability claim.

I have private long term disability insurance. I thought maybe I could get it because I will be able to retire in 10 years so the claim will be for 10 years or less.

Has anyone done a private insurance disability claim?

No, never tried it. But when the representative came to our office to describe the benefit to us, I asked him a similar scenario. He said that you'd have to be severely disabled, as in "not able to carry out activities of basic living." Are you able to get yourself to the bathroom, bathe and dress yourself? If so, you're not entitled to a claim, according to him. Good luck!

I did look into it and it won't be so easy. I would have to be unable to do activities of daily living. Right now, I can do that, it is just painful.
