Hello everyone. So recently I updated my address/living situation with the SSA because I moved in with my girlfriend, and ended up getting my benefits reduced by $200, and I now don't have enough money to pay my car, insurance, and for the other expenses I have, and was just wondering how I can get my SSI (Supplemental Security Income) increased back up to the maximum like it was before.

I already filled out and mailed back the form they sent asking about all my expenses and everything, which, all my expenses are greater than what they give me now like I said, but they just don't consider things like my vehicle, and other things 'necessities' and only consider things like food and shelter as vital and a necessity...

If you don't pay any rent, your SS amount could be reduced by I believe one third

I do pay rent though, I pay 1/3 of the rent, 1/3 of the utilities and 1/3 of Misc. expenses like food, household items etc., then I have my car payment and insurance, and my phone bill, and I barely had enough to cover all this every month before when I was receiving the max $841 amount, and now with it being reduced to $680 I don't have nearly enough. 😕

Im retired on social security and i cant afford a car. Are you working, that you need a car for everyday? How long have you been on SSI? Is there public transportation where you live? Might be cheaper to pay your roommates for rides? Or an occasional Uber. Check your miscellaneous expenditures, hopefully you can eke out the difference by deleting unneeded subscriptions on your phone etc.

Maybe clarifying the household, as you are 1 household, separate from your girlfriend. You cook by yourself. She does not cook any meals for you
