They took it away because I spent 35 consecutive days either in medical detox or an inpatient dual diagnosis program and "my living arrangements have changed" and apparently according to them I didn't have any expenses during those 35 days, and don't afterwards. I'm back to my original living situation (with a relative, paying rent, splitting grocery bills, etc.). I plan on calling SS and explaining the situation on Wednesday. Do you think they'll give it back? I'm even more broke than I was when I initially received SSI, but I guess the change in the economy is a factor too. If it makes a difference I'll be dealing with the state of New Hampshire.

@MuddyBoots sorry you lost SSI. Apparently your living situation has a bearing on whether you qualify for SSI. When you have a hearing about SSI then you may need to provide proof of expenses, so if possible pay by check and or get a letter from the relative detailing what expenses you are paying, the dates paid and for what those payments are for. That might help.
This site may be of help in getting you free legal aid. Social Security Benefits & SSI | New Hampshire Legal Aid Hope this helps. CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

I couldn’t get a hold of anybody so I have to find a day when I don’t have any appointments when I can get down to the office and work things out. I hear this is very common for my local SS office

Call the ask office. Request a phone appointment. They will give you a day and time just last me a doctor s office. It is much easier than sitting in the waiting room for hours.

What's an ask office? We only have the SS office and you're just on hold for the whole day or you leave a voicemail that never gets a return call.

Oh, okay. I'm just gonna make sure I'm the first one there. It's only an hour drive, I don't sleep, and there's typically not a line waiting at the door so that should be easier than waiting on hold for 4+ hours to make an appointment for a phone call that's going to be late anyways.

(Turned that hour drive into like a thirty minute drive but ignoring the fact I'm just grateful there were no staties on the highway...)
Found out they didn't get the discharge paperwork I sent them when they sent me the letter stating they were taking away the SSI$ so they still have my living address as the residential. I will be getting it back, just not for the time I was away. __________________ [Insert thought-provoking and comedic quote here] |

Oh, that’s good news. It does pay to go in person!
