If you have been receiving SSDI for mental health reasons, how often does the SSA re-evaluate your case? Does the SSA rely on your medical records, send you to their own doctors, of both?

Cross-posted in Bipolar.

When I was approved they said I'd be reviewed every 3 years. The first 1-2 times I had to fill out a lot of the same paperwork as I did for the application and so did my therapist. Then in 2018 (my 7th year) I had a 1 page form about my health and whether I had discussed work with my professionals and a couple things like that. I got another of those a few years ago and I guess it's probably time for another review this year. My therapist didn't have to submit anything and hasn't since like 2014 or so. No medical records were requested ever, just a big form from him.

The time between reviews is based on how likely they think you are to return to work. Most people are in the 3 year category.

They are nerve-wracking but something like 95% of people are re-approved and if you are declined they pay you while you fight them.

My situation is likely different because I have mental illnesses and multiple medical illnesses. In 2019, I had my medical illnesses added to my SSDI case. My medical illnesses are far more chronic and must be monitored with regular appointments, labs and medications etc.

I was approved for SSDI January 2016 and I have never (knock on wood) had a re-evaluation. I received a letter once or twice saying no re-evaluation needed.
