Hello, so I'm not quite disabled enough to need supportive services. I'm able to work a part-time job. But I absolutely struggle with budgeting. I feel like I don't make enough money to pay all my bills. I don't qualify for food sdamps, and I'm living the bare minimum of everything, no extras. Is there an app that I could try?

@DeeeSchmeee68 it sounds like you want a simple way to track expenses and income. Google Sheets has lots of free templates but this is one of the simplest
Download Our Starter Budget (Free Excel Spreadsheet) Othere are here: 15 FREE Google Sheets Budget Templates in 2024 Pronanly best to do this with a computer because easier to see on bigger screen. If on phone only go to Google Play or Apple App Store and search for income and expense budget. If a spreadsheet is not so easy for you, take some lined paper and make some columns and list all your type of expenses Monthly Rent and how much it is $1000 in the next column When you have a list of all expenses including food, (check out food pantries I do not think they look at income) and add up all expenses Then add up all your monthly income and subtract your expenses from your income and that is either a surplus or a shortfall (more expenses than income) Then work form there to either reduce expenses or increase income or assistance like food pantry. @CANDC I think that would work better for me.
I'm trying to determine how much more I'd have to make in order to thrive. For example, I get rental assistance and have to pay $504 each month. But the more I make the more I pay in rent. I don't get FS and the pantry doesn't offer fresh food. I'm on a restricted diet. Does that make sense? I really only want to know how much more I need to make in order to thrive. @DeeeSchmeee68 it does make sense that you need to know how to thrive.
I often look at the reduced produce rack in the supermarket. I have seen fresh produce marked down 50% or more. If you want to mention in this post or a PM what state you are in I might find some other options that you could explore. Of course you may have done that but sometimes another set of eyes can see something. You may want to see if you can get a copy of how the scale works. EX If I make $500 more per month my benefits go down by $250 or 50% that is just an example. Then you could figure how much more you need to earn to thrive. Great glad to hear you are getting a gift card. You may have already applied for temporary assistance through social services, but there may be additional programs you qualifry for Temporary Assistance | OTDA Another option to consider is places in your community that offer free meals. If you are in a rural area you might ask farmers if they have any unsalable produce they might let you have at a reduced price. This seems different than the first link I gave you above; it has rental assistance and SNAP benefits plus others Programs and Services | OTDA If you are a senior then check with the senior center in your community. Also the town or city may have programs to help peopl e in need. If you belong to a church they often help people. CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

I appreciate all the helpful advice!
However, I work part-time and do not qualify for SNAP (unbelievable), but I do get some rental assistance. My only option is a food pantry, which, as you may know, only offers non-perishable items. I can not eat those. I do shop the reduced produce rack and use an app called Flashfood for newly expired food. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk |
