Why is being trans associated with lgbq?
I mean trans are about gender identification while the others are about sexual preference. I just don't see the corrolation. Please explain. Just because I have gender issues...where does sexual orientation apply? I just don't get it. I also don't think it should be grouped in that category. |

From what I understand, it was primarily a political thing. The more groups that could be included, at least in theory, the broader the organization's base of support. My impression is that there are many gay & lesbian people who feel transgender people should not be included.
I don't know if I was actually transgender or not. I'm still confused about the whole thing. (For most of my life, the word didn't even exist.) And now it's just too late for it to make any difference. But I've never identified with the LGBT community. For me it was all perfectly simple... there were boys & there were girls. I was born a boy. But I always felt I should have been a girl. ![]() I'm basically a pretty quiet, conservative person. And I've always been put off by the flamboyance that seems to characterize gay pride parades, etc. There was a trans YouTuber whose videos I used to follow. I don't believe she's uploading anymore. But in one of her videos (I still remember this) she said that she never wanted to stand out. She said she "simply wanted to be a woman in this world." For me, that was it in a nutshell. |

The LGB...has grown over the years to be inclusive of any group that needs support and protections based on sexuality or gender... in its entirety the last I heard was LGBTQAI.
Similarly transgender and transsexual used to be used independently of each other. Now transgender is the umbrella term for both. As someone that identifies as transgendered but not transsexual, I am not thrilled with this merger. It is possible that the T when added stood for transgender and not transsexual because at the time and possibly even now.., many transsexuals just simply want to be whatever...whereas transgender may see their sexuality more included in the rest of the alphabet acronym. I know I identify as lesbian, even though I am biofemale, on T, and pursuing top surgery and full hysterectomy. Needless to say, gender and sexuality are complex items and the LGB community from a political stand point, has tried to be inclusive of all - and yes I think there is a little bit to the strength in numbers... but also protection in numbers. |

For anyone who wants to read about the history https://www.umass.edu/stonewall/site...ted_states.pdf
I guess the part of "and then there was a T in the LGBT" is too short and focuses too much on one individual event, but it gives a bit of an idea |
