@TheWell
@Ember_42 I see the change from the Transgender Forum to the LGBTQ forum has now been made. Ember_42 wrote a nice reply to my original post with regard to the possibility of this change. It read: "I'd personally rather see LGBTQIA or LGBT+ so it obviously includes intersex and asexual individuals who tend to get erased and excluded frequently in otherwise accepting spaces. I don't know about how it is in this forum, but I know a lot of ace, demi, and gray-sexual people." I wonder if it might be a good idea, perhaps, if there could be a "sticky" that could be added to this forum indicating who is considered to be included within the "LGBTQ+" forum? Otherwise some members, from some of the groups Ember_42 mentioned, may not feel they can post here (assuming these are all groups admin feels are appropriate for this forum, of course.) Thanks! __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." A sticky never hurts and clarification helps avoid conflicts later on. I'll always be in favor of making sure that those who need it know they're included.

@Skeezyks not to complicate things further but what about gender orientation? Is that covered in the previous posts? I am not expert and I do not know how to use all the pronouns the right way but I have heard of cisgender and other cis's.. The other thing I thought of and I have seen this in another forum was a sticky by a mod or member(I would be willing to try) about not posting anything : Invalidating, marginalizing, trolling, flaming,evangelizing,political, religious rights,approval, disapproval, ethics, debating the "truth"about anyone in that section. I just do not see how anything like that could be of any help to a community already underrepresented, marginalized and overlooked. Not to mention the lack of acceptance STILL in the 21st century. I am very passionate about this I guess. I have seen sections like this be overrun by trolls and people debating with others about their sexual preference and gender orientation and basically everything you can imagine. There are plenty of forums out there for it to be a debate about this but not here imo.

Thanks for your reply. I hope I'm understanding your post. (If not, please forgive me.) As you probably already know, until just a couple of days ago, this forum was the Transgender forum. So it was all about gender orientation. It has now been broadened to include all groups who would fall within the LGBTQ+ community. Gender orientation still fits within it. It is the T within LGBTQ+. I think the point of Ember_42's post was that there are groups who sometimes get left out such as persons who are intersex or asexual as well as others. They don't have a letter in LGBTQ. Rather, they would be subsumed within the "+". But, as it stands now, it doesn't say that anywhere. So, if I were a person who was intersex, for example, I might come to this forum but not be sure if it was okay for me to post here or not. A "sticky" would be a way of clarifying who is included within the "+" in LGBTQ+. Of course, a member can always personal message a moderator. But that requires an additional step & would take time. So what I was thinking was simply that listing the groups who could post here, in a sticky, might be a way of clarifying who is included within the "+". Beyond that, I do apologize but I was unclear with regard to your point about: "Invalidating, marginalizing, trolling, flaming,evangelizing,political, religious rights,approval, disapproval, ethics, debating the "truth"about anyone in that section." None of those sorts of things are allowed anywhere here on PC to my knowledge. So they certainly would not be allowable here in the LGBTQ+ forum. P.S. "Cis-gender" is a term that is used to refer to people whose gender orientation matches their assigned gender at birth, which typically matches their reproductive anatomy. (In other words if a person has male anatomy, & he identities as male, then he's cis-gendered. On the other hand, if a person has male anatomy, but identifies as female, then he (or "she" depending on the person's preferred pronouns) would be transgender. At least that is the way I understand it. But I have to say that, like you, I'm not all that familiar with all of the different gender identity & sexual orientation "labels" that I see in use either or all of the different pronouns people prefer. (Am I making any sense here... or am I just rambling?) Anyway, thanks so much for your reply to my post. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." None of us are experts here, as far as I know, but I'd be happy to give any help or input into a list of labels, identities, and definitions that I might know.
Just fyi, it can be tricky knowing how to refer to the reproductive anatomy of a transgender person. For instance, a trans-man might have vagina but feel triggered by saying that he has female anatomy. He's male and it's his anatomy so, for him, that IS the anatomy of a man. Other people might not have an issue with the language or terms related to physical sex. It's generally better to say afab (assigned female at birth) or amab (assigned male at birth). A transgender man was afab while a transgender woman was amab. Also, the currently accepted term is 'transgender' or 'trans' rather than 'transgendered'. Maybe a second sticky with a list of terminology and definitions might be helpful? |

@Ember_42
Thanks for your reply! I don't know how stickies come into being. I presume they have to be developed & posted by the forum moderators or admin? Thanks as well for the tutorial regarding reproductive anatomy of transgender people. While gender dysphoria is something I've struggled with my entire life, for most of it, these sorts of things simply weren't talked about. So I don't know much. And what little I do know I've only picked up within the past few years. It can all be very confusing. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Oh! I thought you were a moderator. Sorry for making an assumption. You seem like you'd be really good at though. Thank you for looking out for so many people here on your own!
It is pretty confusing. And it's still evolving so it can be a lot to keep up with. Most of what I've learned has come through trying to figure out my own identity. When I was young (I'm 48), there weren't any choices of labels, there was only the traditional binary enforced by religion. Even if I can't express it much in my daily life, being able to understand that there are words for how I have always felt and communities of similar individuals, has made my own dysphoria much easier to live with. The rest I've learned while trying to educate myself about the issues faced by friends and others like them. |
