I knew I was attracted to men when i was 11 or 12, but i refused to accept it until i was 17. I went to a Christian highschool, so i was forced to repress it in an effort to not get kicked out of school. I also figured my parents wouldn't accept it. I came out to friends at 17, and to my whole family between ages 18 and 19. i am now 20. What is your story?

Around the age of 13. I didn’t really know it then but I had some suspicions about my sexual orientation.

in high school I had a crush on one of my teachers and a few girls around my age. the teacher recognized a budding crush in me just like they can tell when a boy-girl couple is beginning to show their crushes and love interests. she pulled me aside after class and explained to me that though she understood I could not help who I was falling in love with because love is love and its normal and a wonderful thing when you find that in your life but her love interests are men, not to mention its illegal for teachers and students to get together romantically. it was ok to admire and think of her as pretty and such but I had to turn my focus to those around my own age. in fact she had a friend who has a girl who loves girls just about my age and would I like to meet her and maybe hang out a bit with her. I said yes and that teen and I though we didn't find the match of a life time we did enjoy each others company. in college young adulthood I enjoyed being with and dating women and now Im a happily married woman to a wonderful woman and 4 children. |

I had a member of the same sex flirt with me at a party. Then I realized, hey, I'm as attracted to them just as much as I would be the opposite sex. I thought I was bisexual, until I learned that bisexuals weren't attracted to newhalfs. I'm fine with newhalfs. So then I assumed I was pansexual.
But the more I think about it, the more I realize that I'm just a sadomasochist. It doesn't really matter who or what is at the end. I don't think that's a sexual orientation, but if it is that's what I am. It's never really been about any kind of body type at all, as long as they're down for S&M and I can do it legally. Whether this means I'm still technically a pansexual or a fetishist seems to be a weird point of debate. If I'm a fetishist, there's another debate on whether that can be considered a part of the LGBT spectrum or not. So that's how I went from not LGBT to LGBT to "sometimes considered LGBT depending on who you ask." I'm glad to be so liminal in everything I do. It's also interesting that my sexuality is so deeply affected by my pathology to the point of inheriting my obsession with power dynamics. Hooray! |

When I was in the 6th grade there was a girl I felt differently around in a good way but I didn't understand why at the time. Then when she changed her hairstyle I didn't feel that way about her anymore. I realized later I had a crush on her. As I got older I continued to have crushes on other women. I now identify as a lesbian.

I knew I was gay when I found out what it was at like 11. But I went to a Christian school, and I only learned what it was because my aunt hated my cousin for it, I tried to ignore it until I was about 15 and started telling friends around then too. I came out to my family at 16.

That's hard for me to say. I can't exactly pinpoint an exact moment, as the feelings have always been there, but I realized it when I was about 14/15 and crushing on another girl. My sexuality is still something I keep hidden, just because I still mostly prefer men, but it is still here and I am definitely still capable of falling in love with a girl, as I've recently fallen for a girl I work with.

For me, it came in multiple stages, though I'm also a couple letters on the acronym. The first time I felt something was "off" about my gender was around 4, looking in the mirror and feeling like the 'boy' I was seeing wasn't me. I realized I was trans by the time I was 12, then immediately buried it so deep I actually forgot about it. At 16, I realized I liked men as well as women, and came out to my parents at 18 (that did NOT go well). It took me 2 more years before I realized again that I was trans, and by the time I was 21 I had moved out and started living full-time as myself. Then, a few years later I realized I was polyam as well. I'm 37 now, and honestly cis-het culture just seems so alien to me anymore. Almost all my friends are either queer, disabled, or both! I just left my non-binary spouse, and I have a wonderful girlfriend now.

I came out late because I never had the courage before. Now, I'm alone and independent. So, I have the freedom. I'm old enough to be a grandma now. I wish I realized my sexuality sooner and admitted it but sadly I was brainwashed by others to believe otherwise. I was a born again Christian for awhile but now am out and about. So, I am happier now and am free to be me!
