It is kind of strange, but as I get older I find myself drawn more and more to women who display a lot of depth and intellectual prowess, both in the real world or as characters on TV shows and movies. A few examples

Elizabeth MacDonald



She is an analyst on Fox Business, her commentary is very substancial and her voice really turns me on.



Emily Erin Deschanel

She is an actress that plays the title Character of a TV show called "Bones" I know almost nothng about the actress but the character's intellect is a major turn on.



Radio Talk show hostess, Laura Ingram, I do not agree with some of her views, but she does argue her positions very well.



Danica Mckellar, for those old enough to know she was the lead actress in a show called "The Wonder Years". Turns out she is a math genius who has written a number of books to help you women improve their math skills.



"Chloe" from the show "24" Super Agent Jack Bauer, could not have performed all those heroic feats, without the help of my favorite TV computer geek, Chloe.

There are others, but I wanted to know what you guys think about very smart women, attracted? Intimidated?

It seems to be in vogue these days to refer to any man who doesn't like a certain type of woman to be intimidated by her. I noticed of the options you offered we were offered either attracted or intimidated rather than say, attracted or not attracted. Ah well, a tangent...back to business.

My wife is the smartest woman I've ever met and I find that very attractive. I don't know any of the women you've listed above but there is one that comes to mind... lemme go look her up, brb...Maria Bartiromo of CNBC. Her genius shines through. I looked some of them up, McKellar for instance got published as an undergrad in a math journal - she has my vote. I have a degree in math and I know, you can count the number of undergrads that get published on one hand every year.

But I guess that's where I was going. After a generation of hyper-affirmative action and political correctness, women are being cast as smart, whether they are or not. Next time you watch a movie, pay attention to the commercials and see if every single commercial with a man and a woman interacting in it doesn't cast the woman as the smart one and the man as the idiot. I don't think it's fair to anyone. There are some really intelligent women out there that don't need the handout and when they do make it, it casts doubts on whether or not they were nudged up or whether they fully deserved it, you know? When you referred to McKellar as a 'math genius'...well, I doubted it. You were right and I happily sit corrected.

I will say this, for me, though true intelligence is hot, I am attracted to a more complete intelligence than is usually represented. Book smarts, street smarts, emotional intelligence...

Haha, this is funny. When I was 16 I was thrilled to find out that the girl I was interested in new how to pronounce Fyoder Dostoevsky properly. We're engaged now but I can't say honestly that that's the reason why haha.

But I definately agree, I like to be able to have a conversation that isn't entirely superficial.

Oh man, the character Temperance "Bones" Brennan totally does it for me too, there's something remarkably geeky about obsessing over a TV character but I'm guilty there. All I know about the actress Emily Deschanel is that her sister Zooey is also an actress.

Backing out of the telly-box for a second, I haven't met an awful lot of brainy girls in real life, but yeh they're hot. I like glasses too, and grammar-nazi--girls. Like every other desireable girl though, they always seems to have a boyfriend.

I really admire Erica Hill and Paula Zahn. I don't see any ego there. By that I mean no desire to impress or to retaliate. I really like talking to a woman who is interested in man things like world affairs, science etc.

I've started going to the Merriam-Webster site just so I can see the woman who gives the etymology of the phrase "hat-trick."

If you want smart, check out the actress Hedy Lamarr. She invented something called "frequency hopping," which has something to do with controlling guided torpedoes, I think.

Oh yes a turn on they are. My ex (when i was 24) was head of politics at the university where i live.
She was not a patch on who i spent 10 years with though, now she was clever,(weirdly though she thought i was cleverer than her), what...!
Now i have problems finding women, i have had the odd lover but if she is not clever shes not good enough for me. She can be beautiful, but if not clever, then i have problems.
