hello

i've recently started a new relationship and i would like to get a complete STD test before we get intimate. not only that but i'm 29 years old and i think it's time to get some reassurance given my history. my new girlfriend knows my history but she hasn't came out and said she wanted me to get tested, not that i want her to say it but i believe with a new relationship this late in my life would be helpful.

anyway, has anyone recently gotten tested? how did you go about finding a suitable clinic? when i search for STD testing i get directed to third party sites that want me to order a ~$225 complete STD test and then they call a local clinic near me and give me an address to show up to with a time and date. seems a little shady to me but i've never gone through this process so i'm a little hesitate. this third party site doesn't give me the name of the clinic or their phone number.. just the address with a time and date.

any helpful advice would be great. what kind of questions or what kind of test should i get? i want to get tested for as many things that i can squeeze into one test. thanks guys

whoflungpoo, I would go to my family doctor and ask him/her where you should go to get the testing done. The third party thing sounds like you might be getting ripped off!

I'm not sure where you're located but you could also try the local health dept in your area. In vegas we have one and testing there is done free, for I think all STD's. Just a thought.

And although you probably already know this, I do want to warn you NOT to donate blood in an effort to be tested, because while they DO test for at least 18 communicable diseases, the possibility of getting a 'false positive' is real; in that event, they will notify you to see your health care professional (who will do alternate, and more expensive testing to make sure it IS a false positve) while the blood bank will simply destroy the unit.

Take care

yeah i spoke with my counselor and he suggested i call the local health department and get information from them and have them direct me to the proper department for testing, rather than using some third party website.
thanks for the info guys

i haven't. i kinda stopped going to my family doctor because they told me i had some kind of cyst when in reality i had cancer. i haven't been back since. luckily i got a second opinion and the second doctor i seen said "i'll be right back" and within 15 minutes came back into the patient room that i was in and told me "you have 30 minutes to make it here" and handed me a piece of paper with a doctor and an address on it. told me he had made the appointment for me and got the doctor to make it top priority. i went there and he did a biopsy and a couple days later i was diagnosed with hodgkin's lymphoma; stage3b

Getting tested for STDs is a fantastic and responsible ting to do for her and your own inner peace while with her. But that online site does not sound trustworthy. Too much missing information as if there is something being hiddden for no justifiable cause. Clandestine is the word I'm looking for. In my opinion you are better off going to your doctor and ask him/her to have it done. It is really only blood samples and MAYBE a urine sample they'll need. And than you wait for the results. But that site you mentionned sounds indeed clandestine somehow. I'd trust my Doctor anyday. Make sure you know how much time you must fast before the test. Otherwise other results will show up because of not fasting beforehand. That happenned to me at a clinic that was not clandestine. So what would happen in one that is? I advise you to see your doctor.

Yeah, that third party thing sounds like a scam to me as well. Many tests, especially HIV, have been free whenever I went to get one done.

You and your new partner should get tested before becoming intimate. This should have started after you became sexually active. She might not ask you, but this is the kind of thing that showing the initiative will make her happy. It proves you are concerned not only for her safety, but also you are concerned for her concerns.
