I've just always felt inferior, despite moderate academic, athletic, and professional success. I just can't get to the root of why or how to let it all go. I recently attended my first Vipassana sit and it shed some clarity on 'how things really are' but I've still got this inner need to accomplish things... it is lawn season... I can research the stock market for days on end... ahhh the cravings. Meditation helps, but it takes too much time and leaves me almost too calm - I stop socializing altogether and get depressed.
Does anyone have any resources to share? The idea of destroying the ego is nice, but that is the most egoic pursuit one could ever undertake, isn't it? This TED Talk by Polly Young-Eisendrath is good if you share these feelings: TEDx Middlebury 2013: Getting free of Self-Importance is the Key to Happiness |

Hello splion: I see you're a 2+ year member. However this appears to be your first posted thread here on PC. So... welcome to active participation here on Psych Central. One additional forum, here on PC, that may be of interest to you would be the Other Treatments forum. Here's a link:
https://forums.psychcentral.com/other-treatments/ I don't know as there is much of anything in particular I can offer with regard to your concern. I have to admit I'm not especially fond of sitting meditation. (I always fall asleep & wake up with a start as I'm toppling over.) Personally, in terms of meditation, I prefer walking meditation. And then, beyond that, I like just plain walking. Here are links to 3 articles, from PC's archives, that discuss alternatives to meditation : How to Manage Anxiety When Mindfulness Fails You When Yoga, Meditation, and Diet Aren't Enough to Cure Depression 5 Ways to Calm Your Mind Without Meditation I hope you're finding PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." shame and envy can be seen as comparative feelings or feelings from comparing yourself with others. i avoid comparing myself to others, or i focus on my unique traits.

If you don't reading or listening to audio books, check out Brene Brown. She's done alot of research into shame for women but there's a whole lot for men to learn in her books as well. I found some really good insights in there.
