I have spent a lot of time thinking about (and recently acting on) the things that I believe will make me happy. This is how I break down my happiness and the approximate focus that I put on each.

30% - a satisfying job.
25% - an intimate relationship with a woman.
10% - relationships with friends.
5% - relationships with family.
15% - material posessions.
15% - hobbies (including fitness).

Note that I did not include religion or spirituality, a few years ago I may have put some weight there but after realizing I will probably not be the next messiah, I dropped them from the list of things to focus on.

As a man, I think it is important to know what makes us happy, keeps us alive, and ultimately what direction our lives are going.

i think for me, fulfilling my sense of moral obligation helps me to feel like a man.... its a 24/7 job to know what that obligation is, and where it needs to be directed....

morality for me is like spirituality in ways... i hope i'm not missing the point....

Its hard for me to respond to this .Im not a normal man in fact it was trying to fit in with we call a man that made me even sicker over the years .To be up front with most men a fuc-in %#@&#! .on the out side they act big and strong but on the inside they are weak little *****es they never show you the real person in side and will go out of there way to hurt anyone who dose. Men all evil we cause wars that kill millions. We preach god then rape little boys .We tell our wives we love them then fuc our neighbor wife. We put money above everything we love and care about .So what important to me as a man . Not being one .

(Before you get %#@&#! off keep in mind I am mentally ill)

Family & Friends. I can go without the rest, even a job for a limited period, but I could never have gotten this far without, if you'll pardon the term, those people I call "bro" because they've known me for fifteen years and know exactly when I should be going out for a beer with them to catch up. I mean I like the possessions I have, but I could do without them, and I've been blessed with a life where I've had the resources to be able to just pick up sticks and go wherever the wind took me.

So yeah. I guess my answer would be the people who picked me up through a heavy divorce, told me that I stank when I didn't care, and at one point cut my hair and made me shave just because she thought I looked better with short hair and no beard, and stayed there with me even though it pissed her boyfriend off at the time that she was spending so much time looking after me.

Looking at my post again, it seems like I was in a mood to make a jab at religion. I have felt in the past the God has let me down in many ways, but now I understand that everything He has shown me, caused me to experience, and/or given me has made me a greater, stronger person. However, he cannot take all the credit. I tend to think of myself as an atheist, although I don't deny the existence of God, if that's clear as mud to you. My spiritual views are fairly complex.
