Let's face it: To some degree all of us don't like having to be social with other people. Personally, I can't stand being around other people- particularly some members of my family. In public, I automatically assume anybody I meet is stupider than myself and are unworthy of my attention. However, sometimes we still have to talk to them, like our psychiatrists, pharmacists, therapists, and receptionists. I don't think we ever feel completely comfortable with other people, but my Narcissism just enhances my anti-social nature. I can't stand to be around anybody, with the exception of maybe five people. Maybe. How does your Narcissism effect your social life?

I judge other people constantly.. Lately, I've come to believe that no one could be more objective than I am... So, I have a hard time really relating to people. I'm too busy judging them.

While in public around strange people I am never fully at ease. I always feel tension and awaiting for something to aggravate me. I don't have an issue feeling the need to judge anyone as I usually am just feeling superior without thinking of them. My mind always allows my mouth to speak to quickly which sometimes offends people and has a habit of making my wife embarrassed. I guess my narcissism allows no censorship at times. I learn as I get older that my liking of people becomes less and less. I am socially awkward but not in a way of hiding in the shadows, just rude maybe without realizing it as much as my wife does LOL. Not paying much attention to others feelings or needs. My other interference come when I feel challenged which puts forward a different beast. This is one of my biggest issue with my ways. Actually I have so many issues with my ways that it is so difficult to determine what is really the worst. My socializing could go the exact same way with a rock as it does a person, meaning I usually have zero interest when someone else speaks unless of course it is about me(I guess that's the difference with a rock, it won't speak of me). My work is creative and I do it alone, almost like a dungeon type space which works just fine for me.

Hey Underground..I've been there...I think I know what you mean... I sometimes say really rude things in the spur of the moment, without thinking it through... and tell myself "I'm just joking around", but if someone had done the same thing to me? it would really piss me off.
Of course, even we people with narcissistic traits know that sometimes people just need to be put in their place.... and sometimes anger and challenging are appropriate... it's just hard to work out exactly when and where.... |

I'm not social but that's more because I'm scared of people judging me and figuring out what a monster I am, or getting it wrong, or upsetting someone.
Guess I can chalk that one up to borderline. |

I'm very outgoing socially. I love interacting with people and analyzing them and figuring out what makes them tick. Depending on what mood(for lack of a better term) I am in I will either sit back and listen to people, or I will completely dominate the conversation.
I don't feel any need to assert my superiority when socializing. I'm acknowledged as superior where ever I go. I'm not joking. I exude self-confidence and I'm told quite often that I'm exceptionally charming and an extremely engaging and witty conversationalist. So I get my ego stroked without even having to try. Hahahaha. |
