I just asked my Psychiatrist today. NPD and the other PDs are all still in The DSM 5. She read it to me.
She told me illnesses and disorders are no longer separated into Axis 1 or axis 2. |

Yes, all the ten personality disorders are still in the DSM-5 though I like their new idea that they also included about a new model for diagnosing PD's, I found the latter to be far more accurate. I think it does people with PD's a disservice to only focus on behaviors, as that often can lead to a misdiagnosis. The new idea they proposed for diagnosing PD's is not just focused on behavior but also internal experiences and motivations, which I found to be refreshing.

I like that idea, too. Seemed more accurate to me, too. I don't have a copy of the DSM V but I read about the proposed change on the internet when it was under consideration a few years ago.

The proposed changes to diagnosing PD's actually impressed me which is really rather hard to do as I normally hold mental health professionals in a lot of contempt, ha ha ha. I've read the new criteria for NPD that they proposed in the DSM 5 and I like it far more, ditto with the other PD's they used in the proposed changes. |
