That article is fascinating, I hadn't ever thought of pathological narcissism in that way but it makes perfect sense.

Given that narcissists are awful listeners?

I wonder if it would help at all to think about what it means to you, personally, to be authentically listened to in a way that's life-affirming, empathetic and kind to you, and that genuinely demonstrates respect and love for who you are?

Your circumstances sound pretty rough, and you deserve way better than that. Besides, no one deserves abuse.

Thank you, Atypical. It's been a rough patch lately, for sure.

I found this article really interesting, as well, since I've had issues with my partner's listening "abilities" for years.
