I started out with epilepsy, got agoraphobia, major depressive disorder and generalised anxiety; now I am tearing at my feet, pulling big bits of skin off and making my feet bleed. It's an obsession which I just cannot stop no matter how I try...and that is not easy for me to deal with...

2 years ago I gave up smoking cold turkey but this I can't stop. I even bandage my feet so I can't get to them, but I now spend ages in the bathroom just pulling the skin off. I'm also a diabetic so it isn't good for that either.

I have other obsessions but this is the only destructive one...what do I do? How do I approach the doctor about it and this may seem like a dumb question but can a dermatologgist help with the damage I've done?

Any replies are appreciated,

Rhiannon

Hmm. I have helped myself leave my feet alone by putting on socks and shoes the first thing, as I'm dressing. I'm much more "comfortable" barefooted but that leaves me sitting here at the computer too long, whereas if I have socks and shoes on my posture is better AND I get up and "do" chores and get outside gardening, etc. I think a lot has to do with constantly redirecting the mind.

If you have diabetes, I don't know that a dermatologist can help with your foot problems (assuming you could get an appointment with a dermatologist; one can't where I live, have to see other, regular/general doctors instead). I would ask my regular doctor or any whom I see regularly, what order you should address your problems and I'd work toward something rather than trying to "stop" something. All habits have to be replaced by something, there's a void otherwise, which is why some behaviors can be so hard to stop. Find an activity that keeps you busy and "knit" or something instead of using your feet in that way.

I hope you get through this, ask a professional for help. But we are here to listen! Your not alone.
