I can't stop ripping off hair. It's my eyebrows and eyelashes as well. I barely have any eyelashes left, my eyebrows is looking weird and I have some spots on my head with no hair. My mom knows about this, but all she does is to tell me to stop it, but I can't! I really can't!

This has been going on since I was 12 years old, but back then I didn't know what Trichotillomania really was. My sister noticed this behavior in December 2009 and she told me to stop it. But I didn't really pay attention, and I just continued and now it's getting worse. My mom is forcing me to have a ponytail since my hair is growing longer, and it's driving me absolutely mad. Even though I have a ponytail, I can't stop touching my hair. It's like I have to!

I have someone to talk to, but I don't know how he will react to this...

Don't be nervous to talk to the doctor about it. I went to therapy for at least 2 years before telling any of my doctors about my picking habit (i suffer with dermatillomania--i pick at my skin) and was so embarrassed to tell them, but i really want to stop so I know I had to say something. They deal with people who have stuff like this all the time, so try not to feel bad. It's not your fault!

Good luck.
