Hoping someone can point me in the right direction with my problem, not sure what it would be labeled as.

Usually once a day I get the shakes along my spine, almost like I am shivering from being too cold, and this intense urge to cut things. I am not talking about cutting myself, harming myself never enters my mind during this.

I have not tried ignoring it yet and usually find something like cardboard or paper to cut strips off of. These 'fits' last around ten minutes while I am constantly cutting things, every few minutes I have to stop because I am so giddy and laughing too hard before continuing. Eventually the feeling just goes away.

I can not find anything looking around that mentions something like this without it being about self-cutting, was hoping a forum might have heard of something like it.

Thank you.

hi ... i haven't come across this before but maybe it's like any obsession as far as getting help?

have you tried speaking with a therapist about it?

you mentioned you haven't tried to ignore the feeling before; I wonder what would happen if you did ... if it would still pass. might be worth trying and seeing how you go?

welcome to PC!

It might come in the category of Obsession/compulsion -- OCD. Just a thought, but it kinda sounds like it -- if it's something that you really feel you can't control.

I'd really suggest seeing a therapist about this. He might be able to help you deal with this compulsion to cut things before it gets too serious. Think about it.

Best of luck and try posting in the OCD forum, ok? Hugs, Lee
