Can someone who has OCD and body dysmorphic disorder please tell me how they saught help?

I do believe my son has both. He has had problems with eating food for years. He has got to the point where he has to buy the food himself and it most is canned. He thinks someone will contaminate his food, try to inject, or somehow mess with the food. He has stopped eating at all family gatherings. He hoards the food in his room and carries it in a bag if he leaves the house. He cooks everything in tin foil too.

He believes a scar on his face is destroying his life. He hates going out unless his scar is covered. He uses hoods, even in summer.

His life is spiraling out of control and he's too young to have to endure such torture, 19.

I feel empathy for him, but I also want so much more for him in life!
His older brother has schizophrenia and would be recluse if not for a program he attends daily.

Help me understand please. Thank you.
Hugs from:

I don't know if any of this would help, but have you thought of looking into what other programs are available at the same place his brother goes to? Or if you want them to have seperate places to go to, maybe look online and see if there is a therapist in your area that would specialize in your son's issues? Just a couple thoughts. I wish I could offer more, but I just thought I would reply and wish you luck in getting help for your son.

Thank you. My sons live in different states. It took several hospitalizations to get my oldest into a day program. My youngest won't go past his psych MD.

I tried to make it mandatory and he threatened to move out and live in his car.

Your son needs therapy and maybe some medication.
I posted on another thread about my BDD, you can look it up.

Thanks. I'm going to a seminar on both this weekend. He does need help, it's getting him to go is the hard part. He's a legal adult.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
