I'm on 20 mg of Citalopram (celexa) daily and my hand washing has been reduced to nothing of a problem. The OCD has now kind of morphed into obsessive thoughts about the worst case scenario coming true for me. So Celexa helped me in one aspect of OCD...

i'm on sertraline as well, but 50mg. I wanted to start out slow and when I tried to jump up to 100mg my symptoms that had vastly improved all came back. so I went back to 50mg and have never been better!

I am just decided to start with sertrline, I had the docs prescription in my handbag for a while, made me crazy, then decided no to and I as on St. Johns herb... no help at all.
I am bending my arms now and maybe on Monday finally have the courage to start setraline. One of my ocds is extreme fear of medications. |

150mgs of zoloft (sertrline) has helped me loads with controlling compulsions and intrusive thoughts. I still have them, but they are more manageable. I am able to approach them with more constructive thinking, which I've never been able to do.

I only know of SSRIs - I've been on Citalipram and Fluoxetine, but neither seemed to touch my OCD, even after several years of using them.

Sertraline is BY FAR the best med for my OCD. I only take 50mg though. I am pretty med sensitive.

My son is on the following:
1mg of Klonopin twice a day 100mg of Zoloft (we may increase it again but we're staying at 100mg for now) .25mg once a day of risperidone, which may be increased to twice a day next week. He was on klonopin for a few years (because he was afraid of antidepressants due to a bad experience of increasing too quickly and getting suicidal thoughts when he was younger.) But the racing and intrusive thoughts became so unbearable that he broke down and started taking Zoloft a few months ago. We increased VERY SLOWLY via 12mg per week and only got to 100mg a couple weeks ago. We decided to hold steady at 100mg for now. The Zoloft made a tremendous difference. It has almost completely eliminated his racing thoughts. His intrusive thoughts are only once a day and he doesn't OCD about them for more than 15 minutes; whereas previously he would OCD about them for days and days. The risperidone was added because the Zoloft didn't help with the paranoia. It's subsiding. He has only been on it for 5 days. Fingers crossed that it works. |

Hi, I'm new here but I'd like to chime in... I personally feel that Luvox is the best medication. I can say that I have tried them all and combinations of them too - my doctor said I'm like a salad - a dash of this, a slice of that. Currently I take:
Adderall 450 mg. Wellbutrin 15 mg. Abilify 300 mg. Luvox 1/2 of a 1mg. Xanax at bedtime I'm probably forgetting something else This combination is making me feel finally better, approaching normal dare I say - of course, who wants to be just normal? I still have two or three issues that I really struggle with but two or three is better than 100. Medication has brought me to the place where I am at least open and receptive to therapy. Does anyone on here have any CBT experience? ERPs perhaps? ERP - exposure response prevention - fancy way of saying to face your fears and don't do anything to make yourself feel unscared. The gist is that the panic and anxiety will lower the longer you are exposed to what scares you, or makes you really uncomfortable. This is easier said than done - like who wants to expose or experience what absolutely terrifies them? I have done a lot of ERP work but it has done nothing to help with the last few obsessions. Right now I am struggling with health obsessions, obsession that I'll get rabies and not know it and that I'm scared that one day I might poison someone. You who have OCD know how hard it is to live like this. But, back to main point, the medications have really helped bring me to a better place, a place where the sun shines every few days. Anyone else want to share what the focus of their OCD is? Starbright777

At the moment I am on 50 mgs of setraline, I don't know when I am moving to 100 mg but at the moment I feel my jaw completely tense, during the day, during my sleep and my compulsions are still there. Please let me know if your son experienced something similar. |
