I definitely have OCD; I have this thing with counting numbers and making sure left and right are balanced. Too tedious to go into intricacies really. The counting and balance have always been constant. But I also have this "part time" obsession. I go through months of being obsessive about cleanliness in the house, including the usual things - labels on food products having to be the right way round, all square and rectangular objects have to be parallel to the wall, etc etc. I drive myself nuts with it, to be honest. But then, other times I really can't be bothered with it and my place looks like a bomb hit it. On a good day I can see the floor through the clutter.

Does anyone else have OCD that comes and goes?

I noticed that my symptoms, especially some, are much worse in the periods in which I'm stressed for something, while in other periods I feel less the need to do that things, or I can control it quite well. Maybe the periods in which you have this compulsion are different in some way from the others?

My OCD is a bit odd, like I can't have people round as I'll have to clean like a crazy person after their gone. But when I clean I REALLY clean but at other times I don't care. For me its all or nothing & its finding the middle ground which is difficult so your part time OCD sounds kinda familiar.

I'm totally nuts about some things. I have to peg my washing out so there is a symmetry to the items, the colours, the colours of the pegs. Yet here I am in a bedroom where tidy means 20 bags on the floor, not bags and contents spilt over the floor. Yet, I won't put other stuff on the floor ever, because floors are so dirty.

I think for me these things are manifestations of my depression and my coping mechanisms rather than full blown OCD. I definitely have the traits, but maybe not the condition.
