I get bad intrusive thoughts and even though I sometimes have gone through phases of ritualistic behaviour it's mainly the thoughts that are most distressing. I am learning in therapy that thoughts are just that, thoughts and it doesn't make them facts.

I too have what has been termed "Pure-O", but that's kind of a misnomer. Rituals don't have to be physical actions to be classified as compulsions. I usually get stuck simply trying to mentally disprove my obsessions, and that is a compulsion. I don't wash, check or do any of the things that people on TV with OCD do. I think you will find that this type of OCD is quite common as you read more posts here. It seems to go undiagnosed a lot of times because there are no outward signs of it.

I have pure-O, but like has been said it can be a misnomer. I'll say a phrase to get a thought out of my head, or i'll call my AA sponsor to make sure i haven't violated my sobriety. Or, i obsess about medication, which i've adjusted alot over the past 9 months and my pdoc said that it's not the meds but my OCD. I hope this helps.
