He's obsessed with a scar he feels is horrible on his face. He's had 3 surgeries after removing a mole. Never satisfied with the results.

He tried to cut himself with razor blades so the ER would stich up for better look. He ended up involuntary commited due to this and other behaviors.

He just did it again. Bought an exacto knife secretly, now confessed to trying to cut again.

How do we stop this obsession????

There is no sure fire answer. You will need the help of professionals. Has he been made fun of in school? This is may play a large factor in this self disfiguring harm.

It appears your son may have Body Dysmorphic Disorder, although I'm not a doctor.
You can do a google search and see what the symptoms are.

I suspect this myself. I asked him to take an online test. He has been diagnosed with OCD.

He was born with a mole. He hated it his whole life. In high school he had his 1st surgery. He's been out of school for 3 years.

Hello.

I also think that your son has Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I have BDD. I also had a mole on my arm removed twice because of it. It may be a good idea to have him diagnosed by a professional mental health therapist, if he is willing to see one.

I have been seeing a psychologist for years. However, I'm still stuck in the house & find it difficult to live with BDD. I hope for your son's sake, that he will be able to find proper treatment so that his disorder does not progress and get worse.

Take care.
