Is OCD where you are obsessed with control? Like being a "control freak"? My parents told me they both have it - but I think they meant they just have some characteristics of it or something. Either way, I'm pretty much stuck with having at least a little bit of the OCD perhaps because of either 1) being raised in this environment where everything needed to pretty much be perfect or die (ok, not literally on the "or die" part but it did get kind of abusive at times if it wasn't perfect) OR 2) genetically predisposed to having some sort of OCD because my parents both are like that.

I've never been formally diagnosed that I recall.. Maybe as a teen actually , I'd have to go look it up but I'm pretty sure it was just a "major depressive" episode...

One of the possible symptoms of OCD is to be obsessed with control. Could you explain something more about how you feel and how much you have to control things? Hugs

Sort of but it involves specific or generalised anxieties and behaviours you use to quell these anxieties... Which become destructive and fixated in your mind, turning into compulsive rituals, so i would say control is only a small part, OCD is centred around systematic patterns, order and regularity manifesting in behaviours for the most part.

OCD is much more than a need for control. It is a label thrown around these days making the real sufferers seem like whingers. OCD is a thought based disorder with sufferers having distorted thoughts and obsessions which lead to compulsions and greatly affecting every day life. It is far more than being a control freak and is not always personality based. There are many people with personality disorders that claim OCD as an excuse for their behaviour.
