Hey all,

So I seem to have a bit of a problem with obsessive compulsive skin picking. Anyone have any ideas of how to curb the habit?

I am really really struggling with this at the moment. Spending hours on it and doing terrible damage :-( Not much advice I'm afraid just some solidarity

I wandered over here from the BPD forum... I also have this issue, but haven't been able to find a solution. For me it isn't so much freckles or moles, but rather bumps and pimples on my back, and I've never spent more than a few minutes at a time engaged in the behavior... But, it is embarrassing when I have to take off my shirt in public, as there are numerous scabs.

I'm in a peak obsessive period of skin picking right now. I'm fighting it and trying to get it under control but I'm having a hard time stopping it. My picking comes and goes in a cycle of varying intensity. I've been hospitalized because of infection from it. Even though I'm having problems with it now, generally I do much better with the help of meds, therapy, writing, meditation...etc. This is a set back but I'll recover--I always get better...eventually.

N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC; available at most pharmacies in the vitamin section) has done wonders for me! There's all sorts of studies being done on it and it helps a lot. 1200mg works best for me. I'd try it. Nothing else has helped me. It's not a cure for me, but it's definitely made a difference!
