I know I have issues with picking at my nails and fingers, but lately when I run out of things to pick at I now move to my hair. I don't know if it's trich because it's like I go through each individual hair and only pull out the ones that feel coarse or thick. Can anyone relate?

I can, I am still picking hair not as often, I am now picking my skin. I tried to get my hands to do other things. I am trying to play some non racing /winning video game (like building a town or farm etc)

Wow. I can completely relate. I have been pulling my hair out more lately, and I specifically do the same thing. I especially like pulling the ones that are shorter mainly because I know that they are short because I pulled them out before. My thing that I used to do was pulling out strands that felt "right." Those ones just felt better when pulled, as in no pain. Honestly, I still do that. I am a little embarrassed about my hair pulling and my bf always gets upset and tells me to stop when I start pulling out my hair in front of him...

edit: Just to clarify, I don't know if I have trich myself, but I do have the same type of compulsion that you described.

I struggle with derma (skin picking) so I can relate. Finding other things to occupy your hands with can help though. Like I use a "tangle toy" sometimes or I play with hoodie drawstrings or my phone case. Picking off nail polish works for some people too.

I wear soft thin cotton gloves when I'm sitting idle so I can't pick. It really is the only thing that has helped me. Yes I feel silly but happy I'm not picking.
