Did you develop OCD over time (and can you remember what that was like), or has it been like you've just always had it? Or was it like it just hit you out of the blue at some point in your life, more sudden than developed?

I get intrusive disturbing thoughts, but I can't remember when they started. I also pluck my leg hairs and eyebrow hairs out when I am stressed, but I can't remember when that started, either. I feel like these things have just always been a part of my mind, because I can't remember it ever not being this way or when it started. But I know that I didn't pluck my hairs as a child. So it started at some point.

What about all of you?

I think symptoms of OCD can be triggered by other things. I have the tendency to dwell on what ifs to an unhealthy level, and i think that is just a side effect from a long reign of trauma in my life, so now I am afraid to believe something will go okay.

I've had this since I was in elementary school looking back after my diagnosis. At sixteen there was a situation that triggered it big time, like it slapped me right in the face. I was then diagnosed. It completely consumed my life. Things got better after I did CBT at the age of twenty-one. It's always been there and always will be.

I remember having fears of contamination at the age of 6 or 7. I remember feeling scared that I would get something on my hands and washed my hands until they turned raw. I also was afraid to touch door knobs because I thought I would get something on my hands. I was afraid to tell anyone because I thought I would get into trouble.

I started having disturbing obsessive thoughts about stuff I saw on the news. This happened after I got pregnant. I stopped watching the news after that and kept obsessing about the stuff I saw on the news for several years. But, I think that the mental health workers got confused about that. I told my psychiatrist about it and said I didn't think little kids needed medication.
