I pull my hair out and play with it all the time I do it a lot more when I am anxious I don't know what to do about it because I have never heard of it before I shared my experience with my anxiety and religious hair pulling/twirling they told me this illness trillomania and is more common then I thought do I need to tell my psychologist? If you think of it I have always had weird "tics" like I used to sit down 3 and yay something or I would become retarded. I would eat my own cheeks with my teeth and if I tried to stop it would be really hard but compared to how bad my OCD symptoms were this is nothing. This at best just makes the house covered with my long hair and I am sure it may have already ended up in my food accidentally. While this hair pulling is a pain it is not really taking over my life so I not sure how much of a priority this is mentioning to my psychologist.

Hello black-roses: Well... I don't know how much hair-pulling you do. But it is possible to do it so much that you develop bald patches on your head... places where hair simply will no longer grow. It's not dangerous. But it certainly can-&-does cause individuals it happens to quite a bit of emotional distress. So, yes, I would certainly encourage you to talk with your psychologist about it. This kind of thing can become more of a compulsion over time. So it would certainly be best if you could nip-it-in-the-bud, as the saying goes.

I guess I will continue to keep on tieing up my hair so the temptation goes away.
